About BHIMS

Bombay Hospital Institute of Medical Sciences (BHIMS), was established under the umbrella of The Bombay Hospital Trust. The Bombay Hospital Trust was constituted on 06th September 1949, as a Public Charitable Trust registered under the Bombay Public Trust Act 1950.

The main purpose of setting up a hospital by the Chairman, Shri Rameshewardas Birla, the doyen of the Birla Family , a leading industrialist in India was – in his words : “The rich can get medical care anywhere because they can afford it, the poor obviously cannot pay for it. Therefore, it should be the endeavor of the Bombay Hospital to render the same level of service to the poor that the rich could get in a good hospital “.

To provide professional medical education and enhance the skill of students, Bombay Hospital Institute of Medical Sciences (BHIMS) was started in April 1990 under the able leadership of Late Dr. B. K. Goyal as Dean, who was an Internationally renowned Cardiologist.

From The Desk of Chairman

SHRI BHARAT KUMAR TAPARIA (Chairman)

Charity and the pursuit of excellence are the two fundamental ideals that provide us the impetus to focus on the well being of the patient who is our primary responsibility. We have an obligation to provide the best possible treatment, delivered most efficiently, in the shortest possible time span and at minimum cost.

The Bombay Hospital has 725 beds, of which 300 beds are free and another 150 beds are heavily subsidised. About 60% of the operations performed by our surgeons are free or against very nominal charges. Every year, about 100,000 patients take advantage of our free OPD.

On this bedrock of charity we are relentlessly building the bedrock of excellence in the Hospital by continuously refurbishing its spaces, installing the most modern medical equipment and injecting professionalism and dedication in our management team, so that our world class doctors can discharge their duties and responsibilities in an academically stimulating and hassle-free environment.
